Frequently Asked Questions

What is the club about?

LRCGB is a non-profit organization founded to encourage and promote the responsible breeding, care and training of purebred Labrador Retrievers and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection. To this end, we conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, obedience trials, hunting retriever tests and agility trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club. We also help anyone interested in getting a Labrador Retriever find a responsible breeder.

Can you help me find a Labrador Retriever?

We can help you in a number of ways, in fact.

If you're trying to locate a Lab puppy, you can make use of our Breeder Referral service. Please see the Breeder Referral page. Many club members who breed Labs also have their own web sites. You can find links to those sites on our Member Links page. We also recommend you check out suggestions we provide on how to choose a puppy, to make sure you pick a healthy pup whose temperament is well matched to your particular situation.

If you're interested in adopting an older Labrador, we've got you covered, too. LRCGB supports Labrador Retriever Rescue -- please see this page for more information.

How do I become a member?

The process for becoming a club member is explained on the Join the LRCGB page. You can also find an application form as well as copies of the Club's By-laws and Standing Rules there.

The process may look a bit daunting, but really isn't. Key is to begin to participate in Club events, such as membership meetings, shows or trials, and find an existing club member to take you under their wings. From there on, it's pretty straightforward.

What events does LRCGB sponsor?

We're a very active club. Each year we organize 10 or more events related to the qualities we admire in our breed. We conduct breed shows, obedience trials, hunting tests, and agility trials. We offer classes to help Labrador owners get started in field work, and we organize events for working and conformation certificate tests. A few times per year members have a chance to get together at general club meetings, which often feature guest speakers on popular topics such as nutrition or animal health. More information can be found on our Events page.

How do I find out about upcoming events?

There are actually many ways in which you can stay on top of the events LRCGB is hosting.

Our Events calendar makes it easy to see what is coming up and provides you with links to additional information and -- when appropriate -- sign-up information.

Check out our Facebook page.

And finally, as a Club member you will be added to our email distribution list and receive notifications of upcoming events in your electronic inbox.

Do you publish any kind of newsletter?

Indeed, we do. It's called Otter Tales. You will receive copies through our email list, and current and previous issues of Otter Tales are also available in PDF format right here on our web site.
